15 years of Lufthansa’s D-AIGT for IAGOS

On July 7th the Lufthansa aircraft D-AIGT celebrated 15 years with IAGOS equipment on board. Lufthansa is the longest running partner of IAGOS having been a launch airline for MOZAIC (the precursor project to IAGOS) in 1994. In total 6 Lufthansa aircraft have served for IAGOS, three have now retired and 3 are currently operating. In total they have collected crucial atmospheric data from 37,500 flights. The D-AIGT first flew with IAGOS on 8th July 2011. It was joined in February 2015 by “D-AIKO”, which today flies for Discover Airlines. In November 2022, the “D-AIKE”, another Airbus A330-300 operated by Discover Airlines, became the third IAGOS aircraft in the Group’s fleet. A further aircraft is curently being prepared to host the IAGOS-CARIBIC flying laboratory to further help atmospheric and climate research.
