IAGOS at ICAO Aviation Climate Week

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Climate Aviation Week took place in Montréal, Canada from 2-4 June 2026 (https://www.icao.int/events/env/icao-aviation-climate-week-2026)

Andreas Petzold from Forschungszentrum Jülich and co-cordinator of IAGOS was contributor to the panel discussion exploring the latest research on climate change impacts of CO2 and non-CO2 aviation emissions. Neil Dickson, head of the Environmental Standards Section at ICAO and moderator of the event, emphasized the importance of the international research program IAGOS. Andreas Petzold presented the results of his recent study (see previous news https://www.iagos.org/2025/11/05/research-at-julich-shows-that-long-lived-contrails-usually-form-in-natural-ice-clouds ) which shows that persistent contrails often form in natural ice clouds and that their actual climate impact is still not fully understood.
